The one teacher who stood up for me when it seemed my prankful behavior would lead to expulsion. We even famously pulled off an April Fools prank! TY

Dan was a great guy, a fine teacher and man of music. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. Informative, motivational, caring, funny, and strict. Can you practice your instrument for 20 minutes a day? Ya, I can. Little did I know all it would lead to... I can still hear the city traffic like sound of everyone playing various parts to various songs before the start of concert band each day. It is a very unique sound... a cluster of instruments playing highs and lows at random rhythms and levels of volume. Then silence, please pull out MacArthur's Park.... Trombones and trumpets only 4 before letter F I need... (and he then would sing the part) Goodbye my friend and teacher you were... Just Ducky!!!

Dan was a true friend, the definition of a gentleman and a wonderful musician, among many other things. He was my colleague and collaborator at Camp Wyanoke from 1961 to 1975, as well as at Hanover schools. I am honored to be counted among his friends.

I met Dan in 1962 when he was my twin brother's counselor at Camp Wyanoke - I learned to play hearts in his tent. The years went by and we both taught in Hanover - I moved on to become a principal and he visited in Plymouth, NH, and later in Lenox, MA the day our youngest daughter was born (he had already left at that point!).
He was a great teacher, counselor, and wise in all ways. Those of us who had a chance to work with him at camp as well as later on in the schools were so fortunate to know him!
We are so sorry for you and your family that he is gone - I am glad he went peacefully. He touched so many lives!

Mr Mannis was truly the best of the best at Hanover HS. He taught me so much and didn’t hold anything back with his teaching and wanting me to be the best. I learned so much from him and the word acceptance. The best memories of band camp and Friday mornings marching in the halls of HHS before the football games....

Mr. Mannis was a terrific teacher and mentor. He taught with integrity, generosity, humor, and kindness. As a current professor and administrator, I remember the way he led the bands in Hanover, and try to model my own teaching style after his. As my own kids grew up, marched, and went on to become teachers they too draw on my stories about what a great impact he had on us. Mr. Mannis, I expect you are marching in with the saints. Thanks for the many wonderful memories.

Mr. Mannis was truly one of the teachers that made a difference in so many lives. He inspired us to be creative and reach for the stars. He welcomed everyone regardless of their level of talent. He will be greatly missed by many. May he lead the band in heaven as he did here.

My father helped hire Mr. Mannis and Mr. Wolbarst when our music department was very weak! He (along with Wolbarst) created an awesome department! Making it strong and creating a wonderful refuge for many talented people and put on some outstanding concerts! He was always there for me, although I did not play an instrument. My heart goes out to his family.

I am so very sad to hear about Mr. Mannis' passing. (I could never bring myself to call him Dan, even after all these years). He believed in me when I was in high school and supported me in learning to play an instrument so I could join my friends in band. He was sweet and kind and sensitive and a very dedicated educator. He loved teaching and touched the lives of many, many students. He will be missed . My deepest sympathies to his family.

Dan was the band director while I was the chorus director Hanover. We shared some great times and some amazing concerts. While our personalities were very different we worked together as well as you possibly could. I was very green coming directly out of college. His experience and intelligence helped tremendously. He was a great guy and better friend! RIP Dan. You touched many lives and will be sorely missed.

Mr. Mannis was my high school band director, mentor and friend in Massachusetts He helped shape an awkward Freshman into a confident young man I also had the pleasure of working with him at camp Wyanoke in New Hampshire where I learned many more life lessons. Mr. Mannis remained a part of me even after graduating higgh school. He corresponded with my mother for many many years and I looked forward to hearing of his updates where he was teaching and living. Thanks "teach" for everything I have been and will be forever grateful
