My wife and I were neighbors of your parents on El Parque Street in Long Beach and have such fond memories of Bernie and Lillian as they were the sweetest most elegant and kind people we have ever known. We loved visiting and talking with them and we were so sad to see them move but knew that it was best for them to be closer to family members. Our sincere condolences at the loss of your parents. So many great memories but my favorite ones always come back to his appreciation of individual gifts. If a child, grandchild, or friend made an accomplishment, Bernie was the first to congratulate them. Whether it was Joanna’s softball, ( and then cheffng), Mollie’s art, or Noah’s film projects, Bernie totally got it. His sculpture is amazing, and he always asked me about my art as well. He was so proud of Althea’s photography, Gabe’s television success, and John’s music. A life long learner, lover of all things creative and family, Bernie will always be a super star to me. He is an example of a person who lived his life with intelligence, passion, and love...One of my life long heroes . Thank you, Bernie, for who you are, and what you gave the rest of us.
