Dear Mel, Leon, Eileen, Gabe, and all the family ... holding all of you in my heart, knowing the sadness at no longer having Esther in our physical presence. What a joy of a woman she was. I have countless memories of weekends spent together all through our growing up years. Dinners shared (what fantastic desayuno Esther made-amongst numerous other delectable treats!), and laughter spread.
I found this picture which shows the whole Negrin side of the family that was alive at the time of Abraham and Sarah's wedding in 1948. Fun to see Esther and Butch, along with Fay.
Dad was always fond of telling the story of riding around the streets of Brooklyn with Esther in the basket of his bike.
Esther had a heart of gold. She was kind, compassionate, open-minded, opinionated (in a good way), emotionally and spiritually strong, and always willing to laugh even when life wasn't necessarily so funny. She always handled the little stuff (like that Princess dog) to the big stuff (like Leon's Yukon Jack dog ;-) and everything in between with grace, care and unconditional love.
She blessed everyone who knew her with zest for life, her kindness, and her goodwill. And I have no doubt she continues to be a great soul in the great beyond.

My deepest sympathies to Leon, Mel, Eileen and Gabriel for the lost of beloved mother, wife and grandmother. I was not only fortunate to know Esther but also lived with her and got inspired by her generous heart, playful spirit, kindness, and love for life. There was not a single family gathering that Esther would not tell a story about her son, his father, his wife and Ester's grandson. She set example of an active life style: dancing, biking, doing yoga, walking every day, learning how to play piano, draw, paint, and using computers. Esther had a unique way of attracting people and opened her heart and her doors to new friends, serving delicious home-made meals. She and Mel shared a beautiful bond we all could learn from. She will remain in our hearts as gentle yet strong light, bringing joy and comfort to all around her. May peace be upon her.

My deepest condolences to Mel and family. I will miss you dearly sweet and loving Esther. Thanks for all of your kindness, warm friendship and delicious foods. I was so fortunate to meet you, Mel and everyone at Berkeley Folk Dance.

An adorable child, who grew into a beautiful woman, becoming a beautiful loving wife, and then an amazing mother, and doting grandmother. A wonderful daughter, sister, niece, and mother-in-law who will be forever missed.

Dear Mel,
I share with you the deep loss of Esther. She was such a delightful woman. Her smile and warmth was amazing. I enjoyed all my conversations with her. I'm delighted that you and she hosted Joe and me in your home early in the pandemic. We ate dried persimmons and shared so many stories together.
