I met Brian at a continuing education seminar more than 40 years ago and from the moment we
met we became “fast friends”. Brian quickly became part of our family and was “uncle” to
my children, “great uncle” to my grandchildren and like a brother to my wife, Carol and me. We
miss him very much. Brian was an extraordinary human being and despite his sometimes
difficult personality, I could always trust Brian in every manner and situation. Good bye my dear
friend and may you rest in peace.

You had me with your blonde hair and “confident” attitude. I was 8 years old. You were 10. I was smitten and followed you everywhere on a family vacation in Maine. You were my first crush. We were cousins named for our grandmother, shared a birthday and inherited the cooking gene.
When you lived in Israel we spent hours discussing recipes as well as our respective pets and love for animals.
You were stubborn and set in your ways, but you were a mensch. You used your legal training to help an uncle. You went to Yad Vashem to try to learn about family who did not survive the Holocaust. May your memory be a blessing for all who knew you. Sleep well with grandma, grandpa your sister and parents. You will be missed.

My fondest memories of Brian are of him driving around town listening to bossa nova music, his enjoyment of restaurants, the way he had such happiness and pride anytime a dog showed him attention, his love of cooking, and that look on his face when he scored a scoop of his favorite ice cream, Ben & Jerry’s coffee toffee.
I am grateful to Brian for the fatherly love he gave me when my own father passed away: for the bedtime stories, the essay editing, the back to school shopping, teaching me to poach an egg, and the endless supply of love, support, and encouragement. Thank you, Brian, for always reminding me to pursue my dreams.
It is so strange to know that Brian is no longer walking this earth. Somehow just knowing he was here, one call away, gave some comfort — which I understand now more than ever. Nevertheless, one thing I so appreciate about Brian is that every time we saw each other or spoke to each other, our love and appreciation never went unsaid. Every goodbye could’ve been the last —because of how filled it was with what mattered most.
When I last spoke to Brian, it was on his birthday. “Getting old sucks and I don’t recommend it“, he said. Well, Brian, I guess you don’t have to deal with that anymore. Know that you live on in the love you gave.
