Ben Mandel posted a condolence

I remember my walks with my father every weekend from the are of 7 to after I was out of the army, his guidance, stories, and wisdom I cherish to my core. Those memories, to this day,, gave me the chutzpah to follow the paths that were harder choices but formed my character and brought meaning to my life.
Its a shame, possibly a mistake, that this obituary mistakenly forgot his youngest son.
I was so proud to read the four questions on passover in Hebrew for him, guests, my brothers and Judy for the first time in 1977. I was so nervous in front of him because his love and approval was everything to me.. I was born Benjamin Chaim Mandel on November 26, 1970 on Thanksgiving day. I'm proud my children knew him, and i miss him , his voice, his chess game, his fruit trees and angel games and hearing him laughing.
I love you dad.

Judge Mandel embodied everything positive in the legal profession and humanity at large. I tried only one case before him but could not help but be impressed with his ability to manage a courtroom. He informed me that we both graduated from Erie Strong Vincent High School though 11 years apart and shared his concerns when he was serving in Southeast Asia and heard 200,000 US troops were headed to Vietnam. Thanks to his entire family for sharing him with us.

My heart is saddened at this news of Jack’s passing. He made the world a better place. From Saturday morning soccer games to dinners at Allegheny, my memories are endless. He is the sole reason 3 of us, 3 Petrossi kids went to college. As A High School drop out I thought there was no hope of a higher education. I went to Jack’s courtroom and spent the day listening to cases and he called me into his chambers between cases. He cut a deal with me, go to summer school and get Cs or better and he would make sure I was accepted for the fall. I got Bs and flourished. I later taught in the SA district and saw Jack frequently! I currently possess two MA degrees and owe it all to the Judge. I’m sure he is in heaven running effortlessly up and down the soccer field. Earth lost an amazing man, one whose legacy will never fade.

Judge Mandel was an inspiration to many. The Allegheny community has benefited from getting to know so many of his "kids."
