Obituary of Marilyn Carnow
Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marilyn Carnow was born on July 10, 1929 in Chicago, IL. She was the only child of Carl and Hannah Shparago. As a young child she learned to play piano and she enjoyed listening to music throughout her life. She had a carefree adolescence and loved spending summers on the shores of Lake Michigan. Before her 20th birthday she married Jacob Carnow. She worked for a year as a teacher's assistant for a kindergarten class--a fact she was very proud of. Within the next 3 years she gave birth to sons, Larry and Abe. In 1954, the family left Chicago and moved to West Covina where daughter, Linda was born 2 years later. In 1958, the family moved again. This time to Beverly Hills.
Marilyn and Jacob divorced in 1970. After that time, Marilyn had first Tom and then Leo as her companion. Marilyn loved to talk to everyone. If they had grown up in Chicago, they earned a special place in her heart. She had the uncanny ability to remember everyone's birthday. As her children grew and married, she was blessed with 5 grandchildren and then 2 great-grandchildren. She kvelled at their achievements and delighted at spending time with them. In her later years, she would spend her days sitting by Andre's restaurant eating lunch and socializing with her group of friends. She died on Thurs, March 12, 2020 at the assisted living facility that she had resided in for the last 5 1/2 years.
Marilyn is survived by her children and their spouses, Larry (Jasmine), Abe (Debra) and Linda (Joe), her grandchildren and their spouses Daniel, Michael (Abby), Charlie, Leah (Yoni) and Roger, and her great-grandchildren Dean and Heidi.
Her ashes will be buried at Hillside Memorial Park. Donations in her memory can be made to National Jewish Health, Denver, CO.
