Alice Angel (born Alina Tetelbaum) was born to Samuel Tetelbaum and Pauline Feferling on November 27, 1932 in Poland. The family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1934 for a few years, and Samuel remained there when Pauline and Alice returned to Poland around 1938. There, Pauline married Samuel Gruenstein, a baker. They were in the Warsaw Ghetto when the Holocaust broke out, but survived due to Pauline’s US citizenship. They went through Pawiak Prison to Vittel, France, where they lived for a year. There, Alice learned English from nuns and fondly remembered the Red Cross food packages they received. They were swapped in a civilian exchange and arrived in the US on March 14, 1944 in New York aboard the MSS Gripsholm. 

Samuel Tetelbaum remarried in Argentina, and had three children—Alberto, Pablo, and Patricia—Alice’s half siblings. Alice only learned of them  later in life and she traveled to Argentina to meet her long-lost family.  

In New York, Alice grew up and enjoyed going to soda counters with her friends and dancing to  jukebox music. At age 18, Alice met and married her first husband Harvey Sterman and had two beautiful children Fred and Lori.  In her mid thirties after Harvey passed away, she met Morrie Angel, who became the love of her life.  Along with his daughter, Dana and son, Rick, they became a family of six. Married for over 50 years, Morrie and Alice were devoted to family and their many friends, especially those from the Sephardic community. As their kids grew, their house was chaotic, fun, full of friends, laughter and love. Later on, Morrie and Alice enjoyed traveling with their close friends, especially enjoying their annual trips to Catalina Island. You could also find Alice playing canasta and 1000 with her friends, and knitting baby blankets for all her grandchildren. Her greatest joy was enjoying time with her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and extended family.  

Before Morrie passed away, he told her each and every day how much he loved her and how lucky he was. Even when he was gone, though she missed him terribly, Alice often told her children that she was indeed a very lucky woman and that she had a very good life. Full of love til the end. Those who had the honor of knowing and loving her were the lucky ones. May Morrie and Alice be reunited at last.

Alice is survived by her four children: Fred Sterman (Stacy), Lori Rudoy (David), Dana Kates (Bruce), Rick Angel (Shelli); six grandchildren: David Rub (Andrea), Jackie Kohn (Jonathan), Michael Sterman, Jeanna Khaloyan (David), Amanda Sterman (Jimmy Mccutcheon), and Samara Angel; three great grandchildren, Morrison, Jacob, and Noah.
