Lena "Rusty" Rothberg Obituary

Lena (Rusty) Rothberg, 96, of Anaheim, CA, passed away peacefully in her

sleep on April 22 at Emerald Court.

Rusty was born in Westcliff, England to Chaim and Chana Glazier on April 2,

1930. At the age of nine at the start of WWII, she was evacuated from her

home to the English countryside and was away from her Mother and older

sister for three years. After the war she later trained to be a nurse at London

Jewish Hospital.

Rusty married the love of her life, Arnold (Les) Rothberg in 1953, and they

had four children: Paulette, David, Simone, and Michael. In 1966, the

Rothberg family moved to Southern California, together with Rusty’s mother.

They made their home in Orange County: Anaheim, Laguna Woods, and

Mission Viejo.

Rusty received her bachelor’s degree in psychology in her forties, an

accomplishment she was very proud of. She worked for years as a psychiatric

nurse at Saint Joseph hospital in Orange and later as a psychiatric counselor

for the county of Orange. She loved to knit and knitted many garments and

blankets for all family members. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and

other organizations.

Rusty is survived by her children: Paulette, David and wife Renee, Simone

and husband Randy Leeds, and Michael and wife Sandy; grandchildren:

Naomi and Daniel Rosen, Sarit, Nadav and Matan Rothberg, Shauna, Megan

and Ryan Leeds, and Heather, Nathan and Jacob Rothberg; and eleven

great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on April 27 at Pacific View Memorial Park in

Corona Del Mar, with Rabbi Joe Mendelsohn officiating. Donations in Rusty’s

memory may be made to American Friends of Magen David  or to a charity of your choice.
