Obituary of Alan Friedland

Alan Dale Friedland passed away on February 15th, 2025 at the age of 75. He deeply loved, and was loved by his family and friends. Teller of stories and jokes, worker of wood, and frequenter of the Eureka’s finest (and only) coffee shops, his presence was large and his ego was small. He moved to Humboldt County from Los Angeles in 1974 and settled in Eureka a few years later. An enigma perhaps, he was both a hippie and a hard working blue collar man. He is survived and missed in the most unimaginable ways by his daughter, Jessica Gurinas, his grandchildren Max and Paige Gurinas, his son in law, Paul Gurinas, his sister Helen Hofawger, and his dear and loyal friends, Vickie, Richard, Paul, Floyd, George, and Kenny. Many more have been touched by his humor and his heart over the years. Alan will be buried in Los Angeles, on March 2nd at noon, close to his parents Sam Friedland and Enid (Brooks) Friedland at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive.
